Many of you will be aware that we have been reviewing whether our charity name, ‘The Ménière’s Society’, fully represents what we do as an organisation.  Over the last couple of years, we’ve reached out to our members, health professionals and the wider public for comment and have been collating all the feedback. Thanks to everyone who has shared your views, your responses have been really helpful to us in reaching a decision.

The feedback has resulted in a lot of discussion. It’s taken time because we wanted to be sure we made the right decision.

Opinion has varied, but two key themes stand out:

  • Firstly, that our charity’s roots as the Ménière’s Society are important to many people and we are keen to maintain this.
  • Secondly, as an organisation we support a much wider group of people, not just those with Ménière’s, but people with other vestibular conditions too. Currently our charity name doesn’t clearly represent this.

Overall, from the comments we’ve received, there is agreement that there is a change to be made; but it’s important that we don’t get it wrong and waste valuable time and resources.

The history of the charity is important to us and we remember our founder, Marie Nobbs, and would want her to be proud of what we’ve achieved in continuing her legacy.

Why do we want to change?

Going forward we want to be able to reach as many people as possible. We want the charity to continue to evolve so we can work towards a future which puts a brighter spotlight on vestibular
conditions, supports even more people and encourages further research in the field.

What happens now?

We’ve taken all the feedback into account, reviewed possible name options and considered domain (website) names and social media handles. We are keen to ensure whatever update we make to the charity’s name reflects the views of our stakeholders and - to use a well-known catchphrase - ‘does what it says on the tin.’

Consequently, we’ve reached a decision to transition to ‘Ménière’s and Vestibular UK

We need your vote

We’re excited about this update to the charity’s name and we hope you will be too. It’s a positive step for our organisation’s future. We’ve got lots of things going on behind the scenes to get this underway, but we need you to make it happen!

We do hope you will choose to support this update. It’s taken us a long time to reach this decision because it has been important to us to get it right. We look forward to taking the charity forward through 2025 and beyond.

We’ll provide further updates as this progresses and following the Special General Meeting on 17 May 2025. In the meantime, if you have any questions or if you would like any more information about the change to ‘Ménière’s and Vestibular UK,’ please get in contact.
